The DVSA suggests 45 hours of professional lessons plus 22 hours of private practice. The amount of hours needed can alter up or down, based on learning pace, level of experience and confidence.
Two hour lessons are generally better because they offer more practice time with better skill retention and faster overall progress. Although choosing between one hour and one hour and a half lessons, may also work for those who struggle to focus and will help to fit in with your schedule and or finances.
Each person’s needs will be assessed on the first lesson. New learners won’t drive immediately, you will learn how to set the car up for you to drive, including seat positioning and mirrors. You will also cover all the controls including pedals and gears, conducted in an appropriate area, before looking at how to move off and stop.
